Beautiful Memories
I’ve been looking over the pictures I made last year on the Camino Francés and making other pictures from them, pictures that look more like paintings. Even though they do not look exactly like what the places or flowers or things looked like originally, they are an attempt at giving back what I saw, what…

June 19 – Back Home
A week ago I was on my way home. It was a long flight, 8 hours to Toronto and then another 4 to Calgary. Then drive back to the West Kootenays. It’s good to be back! The first few days back were hard. In part it was the time change – my body needed to adjust…

June 11 – In Porto, Portugal
Jerry and I said goodbye at the bus station in Santiago, where I took a bus to Porto, about 3 hours away. I am staying at a hostel in the centre of Porto. It is quite comfortable and very convenient to walk around and see a bit of this lovely city. Below, a selection of…

June 5 – The 43rd Albergue
Tonight we’re staying at the 43rd albergue since starting this adventure. It’s a very nice, small, family run place. It has 4 bunk beds (8 beds total) downstairs, and some private rooms upstairs. The hosts prepare a meal in the evening, everything homemade using local, fresh ingredients. It’s been raining all day, so people staying…

June 1st – Almost There
It’s been a long journey. Starting on April 24 at St-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France, over the Pyrenees into Spain. A few wet and muddy days, many sunny clear days. Always following the yellow arrows, shells and other way-signs. We saw majestic church buildings and quiet, wide open wheat fields, bridges and sculptures, and flowers, so many…

31 May – Sarria and the Last 100 K
We made it to Sarria. Sarria is known for being the usual starting point for the last 100 kms of the Camino Francés to Santiago, the one we’ve been walking since April 24. In 2024, more than 150,000 pilgrims started the Camino in Sarria. By contrast, only about 32,000 started from St-Jean-Pied-de-Port, where we started.…
