Days 5 & 6, Estella & Sansol

It’s been hot! And these two last days most of the trails were in open country or through towns. No shade. Hot!

I don’t do well in heat. A number of times these last two days, especially on Monday on the walk to Estella, I wanted to quit. I wondered why I am doing this. My shoulders felt bruised, my hips hurt a lot, I was sweaty and dirty and hungry, and I thought I could instead be at home, with my husband. But I am stubborn, and don’t usually like to quit. So … I am going on.

Monday’s hike was about 25K. One highlight was finding a sign some kind person left for the pilgrims, and next to it a table with treats and water.

Another was a Roman road and bridge, really well preserved. The Romans were excellent road and bridge builders!

Tuesdays hike was even longer. About 30K I was fortunate to walk with a woman from the UK who walks at about the same pace as I and doesn’t mind just walking and not constantly talking. I felt very comfortable with her – this is rare, but very enjoyable. I am thankful for this gift. We are walking together again tomorrow.

Here are some pictures from today;

I am at the Albergue Sansol now, and it is raining. Pouring! Thunder and lightning! Hopefully this will cool down the weather for tomorrow’s 22K walk. Good night!
