Days 17, to Bercianos del Real Camino

On Saturday, May 2, we started walking a bit after 6. We had a longer walk ahead of us, 27k or so. It was dark but there were these lights flashing on the horizon.

Pretty soon we realized it was lightning. And it was getting closer and closer (3 secs). Lots of thunder. It was glorious IMO! Then it started to rain. A downpour that got us quite wet.

A couple pilgrims walking in front of us right after the rain stopped. I thought they looked “cute” with their rain gear half on and their bare legs.

Then the rain stopped and it was calm, for a while. We were just about dry when it started raining again! Wet again. It stopped. We more or less dried up. Then I stepped into a puddle and got my drying shoes very wet.

And then it rained a bit more and then, finally, we got to our albergue a bit before two. I (and everyone else) tried to dry our clothes in our bedrooms, because we couldn’t hang them outside – it was still raining on and off.

My bed and my wet clothes

It was, all in all, a really enjoyable day, in spite of the weather. At sundown there was a rainbow – you can hardly see it in the picture, but it was there:

On Sunday, May 3rd, today, we had another long walking day, almost 27k again, to Mansilla de las Mulas. It is now late in the evening and I am too tired to write more. I will try to do so after walking to León, thankfully only 20k away. Good night for now!
