April 30 and May 1st, 2026
It’s been two very peaceful and rather easy walking days. The weather has been great, the Camino is well marked, the food fine. The only bad thing is that I caught a cold. I hope to get over it soon.
We walked about 20k on Thursday, to Carrión de los Condes. We stayed at the Albergue Espíritu Santo. At reception there was a very spirited and welcoming nun who keeps telling everybody to take a siesta and then go down to the river to cool off the feet. I did neither.
I did go to see and hear the singing nuns of the Iglesia/Albergue Santa María. There were 4 of them, and they were pretty good. Kinda fun actually.

Today, Friday, is a holiday in Spain. Labour Day. We walked about 23k to the small town of Lédigos. The albergue and attached restaurant is open. Many stores and services are closed today.
For the first 17k of the walk there are no towns. There is a food truck at about k8, which is nice. The walk was basically flat, through fields of wheat, barley, peas or beans, and probably other vegetables also.
We are staying at a small but very welcoming albergue run by a young couple, Albergue El Palomar. It is not the fanciest place around, but they make that up with very good food.

We have done a little bit over half of the Camino between St Jean in France and Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. One of the reasons I wanted to do this was to see if I could. I didn’t think I’d be able to complete it. But I am thinking now that I actually may be able to walk all the way to Santiago. I hope so!
Good night!
