The Camino today was a relatively short walk (about 20K) in rain and drippy fog. I crossed from León into Galicia, where it always rains I’m told.
Walking out of La Faba, it was raining which made the landscape look quite dramatic.
It was up La Laguna:
Getting close to La Laguna, the last town in León, before crossing into Galicia. It was still raining, quite hard.
And more up to O’Cebreiro:
After La Laguna, the trail I just walked, almost to GaliciaAt the marker entering Galicia – still raining – it always rains in Galicia I’m told!Trees in foggy rainRight before the town of O’Cebreiro the rain stopped. A small fern growing on the wall bordering the trail to O’CebreiroO’Cebreiro is known for its pallozas , which are ancient, circular stone houses with thatched roofs that date back to pre-Roman or Celtic times. The sky cleared and even showed a bit of blue – for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then it turned foggy and drippy.
Then up and down and up and down to Liñares:
Los Liñares, about 3K past O’Cebreiro, is a small settlement that must be very agricultural, judging by all the tractors around. The place also smelled strongly of cow manure.
Next up to Alto de San Roque:
Still in fog, the Camino gets to Alto de San Roque at 1270 m elevation. There is a statue there, I think honouring the pilgrim who managed to hold on to his hat.
Going on, down and up to Hospital da Condesa:
2 or so K later is Hospital da Condesa, another small town; despite its name, it does not have a hospital. It continued to be foggy and drippy walking beyond Hospital.
Then down and a steep up to Alto do Poio. This is the last town before Fonfría. The name means “Top of the Stone Bench”, not Chicken Heights as I thought.
Finally the Camino flattens out for a couple K to Fonfría, where I’m staying.
Right after Alto do Poio, one of the most confusing signs of the Camino. No matter if you go left or right, it is 153.1 K to Santiago. Pilgrims stand there wondering which way to go.
I an now at the Albergue A Reboleira. They have a beautiful, large palloza (round house) where at 7 PM they serve a great Pilgrim’s Meal.
