It’s been two days of walking through the Galician countryside.

The first day it drizzled and rained the whole way, about 20K, but it wasn’t unpleasant, rather beautiful in some ways. I crossed the 100K to Santiago marker!

The Camino goes up and down and up and down through fields and woods, and along a few roads. Another pilgrim described it as a mix of Ireland, the Cotswold and New Zealand. Of those three I’ve only been to Ireland, and yes, it did at times remind me of the landscape there.

I made it to Portomarín and met up with a few people I’d met way back at the beginning of this year’s Camino – we had dinner together. Then I had a good night sleep at a modern and clean albergue (Casona du Ponte).

The next day (today) it didn’t rain, just drizzle a little bit. It was cool and overcast, very foggy for starters in the morning, nice for walking, not so nice for sitting outside. The Camino was not as pastoral as yesterday, but nice. It mostly followed roads, some dirt some paved. It was longer than yesterday, almost 26K.

For the first time today, I took a wrong turn. Or, not a wrong turn, but I didn’t notice that I was supposed to turn and I walked on straight. Fortunately, a kind person in a car stopped and told me, that’s not the Camino; go back about 200 m and turn on the road uphill – so I did!

I made it to Palas de Rei and to another very modern and clean albergue. I had an excellent late lunch/early dinner at the Eira Restaurante, probably the best so far on this year’s Camino. Now I need to sleep, because tomorrow I have a long walk, almost 30K.
